Boiler Operation and Safety Awareness (BOSA)
With reference to the Health and Safety at work act and the pressure systems regulations, persons responsibile for the operation of steam boilers must be fully competent or have had suitable training.
Course Description
Above you can see a picture of a training event being held at the Hilton Hotel Belfast. This is one form of training. The other option is a Boiler Safety Awareness course being held at your own premises. This would typically involve 50% of time spent in the classroom and 50% in the boilerhouse. This program is tailored to your own boiler but has a maximum of 8 people per course.
This course is designed for personnel responsible for attending to the boiler plant. It would also be useful to personnel responsible for matters relating to Heath and Safety and for anyone within your company who is required to perform a comprehensive overview of the boiler plant to ensure efficient operation and safety of the boiler plant. It covers essential daily and weekly routines, boiler fittings, emergencies and Health and Safety issues.
Course Content:
- Health and Safety relating to steam and boiler systems
- Causes of boiler explosions
- What a boiler is, what it does and the basic construction details
- Shift, daily and weekly checks
- Controls and instrumentation
- Guidance note PM5 and its implications
- Boiler logs and records
- Actions to be taken in emergencies
Entry requirements for personnel
The course is suitable for shift operators, managers, security guards and maintenance personnel who may be required to start up or shut down the boiler or respond to alarms whilst on shift.
