Service - The efficiency and reliability of your burner and therefore your heating system are, in many cases, business critical. It is recommended that all gas burners are serviced at least annually, with oil burners bi-annually. Boiler Safety Training

Boiler Operation and Safety Awareness (BOSA)

With reference to the Health and Safety at work act and the pressure systems regulations, persons responsibile for the operation of steam boilers must be fully competent or have had suitable training.

Course Description

Above you can see a picture of a training event being held at the Hilton Hotel Belfast. This is one form of training. The other option is a Boiler Safety Awareness course being held at your own premises. This would typically involve 50% of time spent in the classroom and 50% in the boilerhouse. This program is tailored to your own boiler but has a maximum of 8 people per course.

This course is designed for personnel responsible for attending to the boiler plant. It would also be useful to personnel responsible for matters relating to Heath and Safety and for anyone within your company who is required to perform a comprehensive overview of the boiler plant to ensure efficient operation and safety of the boiler plant. It covers essential daily and weekly routines, boiler fittings, emergencies and Health and Safety issues.

Course Content:

Health and Safety relating to steam and boiler systems
Causes of boiler explosions
What a boiler is, what it does and the basic construction details
Shift, daily and weekly checks
Controls and instrumentation
Guidance note PM5 and its implications
Boiler logs and records
Actions to be taken in emergencies

Entry requirements for personnel

The course is suitable for shift operators, managers, security guards and maintenance personnel who may be required to start up or shut down the boiler or respond to alarms whilst on shift.

Yearly servicing

It’s a legal requirement to have your boiler serviced once a year if it is GAS. However we would recommend for safety, efficiency and to lower the chances of failure it is better to have your Gas boiler serviced twice yearly. It is also recommended to have your oil boiler serviced at least once yearly, we would again recommend twice yearly to increase efficiency, reduce costs and to reduce the chances of failure.

Tailored Service

At Geoff Castles we understand that every business has different requirements and this is why we offer tailor made servicing contracts. A boiler may need servicing three times a year or more. This is particularly the case with process boilers, which need to be properly maintained to ensure the smooth operating of an automated factory process. Boiler Insurance Preperation

Obtaining necessary permits to work and carrying out a risk assessment
Opening boiler and cleaning all smoke tubes
Cleaning furnace and rear smoke box
Checking water space and reporting
Remove, service and refit, feed check valve, blow down valve
Safety valves and sight glass gauge cocks with new packing as necessary
Fitting new sight glasses
Fitting new manhole joints as necessary
Carry out working test

Ultrasonic and N.D.T Inspection

Removing cladding & lagging in areas to be ultrasonic tested
Cleaning up areas as necessary to the latest insurance company guidance notes with an air sander leaving surface suitable for testing
Removal of furnace brickwork, grinding off refractory ties and cleaning
On completion of NDT testing, renew lagging as necessary and refitting of cladding
Renew refractory ties and moulding new refractory quarls as per burner manufacturers specifications

Supply and Replace Refractory

A full service is available to remove & renew furnace brickwork or refractory.

Boiler Descale

Boiler de-scales are be carried out by our team to the latest specifications and include full waste disposal at approved sites
